Maria Garcia works with her team at athenahealth on the vast and complex problem of electronic medical records and medical billing. When applying OOUX to projects at athena, Maria has found ways to extend OOUX to make strategic enterprise-level UX feel less overwhelming.

Maria will also discuss how to extend OOUX with Business Process Modeling (BPM) to express how workflows relate to objects.

Finally, Maria will share some ideas she is starting to advance on how her team can coordinate work across the business using objects as an organizing principle for their design system.

Maria Garcia is a user experience architect and strategist who enjoys breaking down complex problems to create simpler, more usable software and customer journeys. Maria has over a decade of experience working in healthcare and consumer products. While she has worked on everything from voice to television interfaces, healthcare enterprise software has become her passion. She is currently at athenahealth driving the UX strategy for athena’s medical billing product, Collector.

Maria received her bachelor's degree in Mind, Brain, Behavior from Harvard University and a masters in Human Factors in Information Design from Bentley University. She's also a Certified OOUX Strategist 💪.
